Overview:

SimAVIO is a data driven application.  Therefore, it relies on non-programmers to design models and create the imagery.     SimAVIO is the rendering software that reads the compiled files created by Instrument Builder.

Features:

All of the avionics and instruments that are available from FTS were build using the same set of tools that we are now offering to you!   From the simple instruments like a single needle on a round gauge, to complex moving map displays with shaded relief, Instrument Builder can handle it all.   But it does not have to end there.  You can build a Graphical User Interface (GUI), of anything that uses simulation data.  How about an air traffic control simulator, a flight instructor's console, a spacecraft cockpit, or a prototype of a new aircraft cockpit.  No programming knowledge is necessary.   You do however need to learn the FTS script that animates each object in the modeling program.   AC3D by Inivis is the popular 3D modeling program that you must purchase separately from Instrument Builder.

Summary of steps to create a gauge in Instrument Builder

1. Purchase and download Instrument Builder, AC3D and Photoshop.
2. Use Photoshop to create the images (textures) for all the parts needed to build the gauge
3. Use AC3D to :

• Assemble the parts (objects) of the gauge
• Paint the objects with the textures you created in Photoshop
• Animate the objects by using the FTS script

   4.   With SimAVIO connected to X-Plane, calibrate and test the instrument

You still may be wondering what the differences are between Instrument Builder and SimAVIO.  Below is a list of those differences.

• Instrument Builder can render (open) instruments from models saved in AC3D (.AC).
• Instrument Builder can save to a compiled format called .FTS.
• Instrument Builder can render (open) instruments in .FTS compiled format. 
• SimAVIO can only render (open) .FTS files.  SimAVIO can NOT open .AC files.
• SimAVIO is ideal for end users who require fast load time and small file size.

The Legalities:

The instruments and avionics that you create are your royalty free property.   You may license and sell your hard work to whoever you wish.  We only ask that you produce original work and use the sample instruments included with Instrument Builder as a framework for learning how to create your own.    The recipients of your instruments will need SimAVIO, in order for them to open and display your creations.  SimAVIO can be purchased through our web-store for $39.95 (Retail, NON-commercial license)
